After starting Fizzy Fish @ Safe and Sound it quickly became apparent that having a Pre-School to move the children onto is a necessity of the business and therefore in January 2016 we merged Play and Learn Daycare into Adams Fothergill Ltd and re-branded as Fizzy Fish and Fizzy Fish Pre-School.
Late 2018, we were given the opportunity to bind for the early years setting at Peter Gladwin School in Portslade. We were succesful in our bid and opened in April 2019.
At the end of 2022, Lou decided to take a step back from her role in Fizzy Fish and is now working part-time as our Early Years Teacher and mentor to training EYT's.

We offer a home to home caring environment, specifically for children starting in daycare for the first time. We aim to become an extension of your family home, leaving you secure in the knowledge that your children are safe and happy at play in a loving and stimulating environment.
We are based in a large semi-detached house with a garden. The setting has been split into two areas, one for the children under 18 month's and the other for the 18 month +'s. The upstairs has been designed for the 18 month +'s and consists of two rooms plus a bathroom and a sleep room. We utilise the rooms depending on the children in the setting. The Clownfish and Seahorse rooms have a number of resources suitable for our 18 months + children and the children have the opportunity to free flow between the two rooms. Our two sleep rooms contain travel cots and children can sleep when needed. A number of prams and other travel cots are also available and they are set up as and when needed. Babies sleep as and and when needed and the older children tend to have a nap after lunch, sleeping in cots or on sleep mats and are monitored the whole time they are asleep. A child's sleep needs are discussed on joining the setting. Downstairs has two main rooms, the Starfish room and the Busy room. The Starfish room contains a cosy area, books, and various toys for our under 18 months children. The Busy room is used for all messy activities such as painting, playdough, cooking etc. We also use this room for all our meals. All the children eat together and babies sit in low level chairs at the tables with the older children. The children's cloakroom is located in the conservatory which also leads out to our garden. The secure, grassed area has a raised flower bed where we grow flowers and vegetables. In previous summers the children's have grown sunflowers (which were well over 8 ft), carrots, tomatoes, courgettes, potatoes, strawberries, raspberries and sweet peas. The garden also houses a raised den in a small woodland area, a wendy house, a picnic sand table and a small raised pond to raise our tadpoles each year. The wendy house has toys for role play. This area is used everyday and the child love to get outside in all weathers. We have a number of all weather ponchos which the children can use if they fail to bring a coat. |
We offer a caring environment which prepares the children for their transition to school.
The purposely designed room is split up into three areas: The kitchenette and toilets - we have two child sized cubicles with two child height sinks. A fully enclosed adult toilet and sink. The kitchen base unit that serves as a storage cupboard and nap changing stand in needed. This areas can be seen from the rest of the room to reduce potential safeguarding issues. Our children are encouraged to be self sufficient and only need occasional help. A lino area which can be used for messy play and for eating. This area also has a long low level bench which is currently used as a mark making area. The wall above this area has letter from the alphabet and an image representing each letter and the word written in English, Spain, French, German and Japanese to represent the languages spoken to some of our children. The storage unit underneath the bench has pens, pencils, paper, envelopes magazines, maps, which can be freely assessed by the children. On the bench there is also a PC that can be used by the staff and by the children with supervision. We also have an iPad and two tablets that can be used by the children and have child specific apps on them. The PC and iPad and two tablets supports our ICT teaching. The lino area also has three/four round tables and chairs which are used for mealtimes, small group work, messy art activities and other table top activities. Different tablecloths are used to cover the tables for art and mealtimes. A carpet area which is partially separated from the lino area by a trofast unit which contains boxes of different types of toys identified by pictures and words. The carpet area also has three other more high level units. The lower levels again contain boxes of toys with labels and pictures. The higher shelves are used for items used in adult lead activities. The children have access to a variety of fiction and non fiction books. We believe that books are fundamental for learning in all areas of the EYFS and we read to the children everyday at circle time which is three times a day and children can access books of their choice throughout the rest of the day.The wall in this area has pictures of all of the children and mounted on the wall is a flat screen which rotates photographs of the children carrying out recent activities. We have a huge garden with a large two storey treehouse built around two trees. Steps provide access to the upper area of the treehouse and a slide to exit the treehouse back into the garden. The lower area of the tree house has two picnic benches which are moved around the garden and can be used for a number of table top activities suitable for outdoor play. The garden also has a wooden pirate ship and a small wooded area with a bug hotel that the children can explore. At the top of the garden we have a tyre tower and a forest area where we have made a play den and run forest school sessions daily. |
Fizzy Fish Pre-School @ Peter Gladwin
We offer a caring environment for 2 to 4 year olds, preparing the old children for their transition to school.
The purposely built classroom consists of lino and carpeted areas for messy play, construction and quiet areas. There are also 3 child sized toilets and sinks and an area for coats and shoes. There is also a kitchen, admin area and adult toilet. The toilet area can be seen from the rest of the room to reduce potential safeguarding issues. Our children are encouraged to be self sufficient and only need occasional help. The lino area can be used for messy play and for eating. This area consists of a number of tables and chairs which can be removed if needed. This area is separated by low level storage units from another lino and carpeted area where circle time and independent play takes place. There is also a quiet area where the children have access to book. Above this area are shelves that house the books read by the adults. There is also a large cupboard where resources and activities are stored. The setting has a tarmac area and a covered decked area. This allows outdoor play to take place in all weathers. The children have access to a digging area, sand and water trays, a cosy area for reading and a pirate ship. The decked area houses a large cupboard in which we store outside activities and resources. The garden also has boarders where we grow grapes, strawberries and herbs. |
